What issue are you seeing?

Codex Desktop intermittently spawns a very large number of conhost.exe, taskkill.exe, and git.exe processes. During these bursts, disk utilization reaches 100% and the PC becomes extremely slow or unresponsive, even when Codex appears idle.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open Codex Desktop.
  2. Open a local Git workspace (in my case, a Next.js repository).
  3. Leave Codex open or use it for a short period.
  4. Observe Task Manager when the system slows down.

During the issue, Codex launches commands including:

git.exe -c core.hooksPath=NUL -c core.fsmonitor=false status --porcelain
git.exe config --null --get core.fsmonitor
powershell.exe ... Get-CimInstance Win32_Process
taskkill.exe /pid <PID> /t /f

The Git command explicitly disables core.fsmonitor, potentially causing repeated full working-tree scans.

What steps can reproduce the bug?
