What issue are you seeing?

Since today, Codex has become unreliable in VS Code.

Many requests fail with:

stream disconnected before completion: error sending request for url (https://chatgpt.com/backend-api/codex/responses)

The extension repeatedly displays "Reconnecting" and often retries several times before eventually failing with "request timed out".

The issue started today. According to the OpenAI Status page, there are ongoing issues affecting ChatGPT conversations, so this may be related.

Expected behavior:

• Requests complete normally without disconnecting.
• No repeated reconnect attempts.
• Stable connection while using the VS Code extension.

Actual behavior:

• Frequent disconnects.
• Reconnecting loop.
• Request timeouts.
• Coding sessions are interrupted.

What steps can reproduce the bug?

1. Open VS Code with the official OpenAI Codex extension installed.
2. Open any project.
3. Send a coding request to Codex.
4. Wait for the response to start streaming.
5. After a short time, the stream disconnects and the request fails.

The error shown is:

The extension then displays "Reconnecting" multiple times and eventually reports "request timed out".

This started today and occurs repeatedly across different prompts and projects.
