What issue are you seeing?

Scheduled Codex tasks sometimes stop making progress while running in the background.

No error or approval request is shown. The task simply remains active without doing anything else.

When I manually open the stuck task in the desktop app, it immediately starts working again. In one case, the task had been stuck for more than an hour. It resumed within a fraction of a second after I opened it.

I checked the desktop app logs. They showed this order:

1. The background task requested an app-owned tool.
2. The tool did not start while the task remained in the background.
3. I manually opened the task.
4. The app ran thread/resume.
5. The waiting tool started almost immediately.
6. The tool finished normally.
7. The agent continued working.

The tool itself was not slow. Once the app started it, it finished almost instantly.

This has been noticeable with scheduled tasks across multiple projects, so it does not appear to be caused by one repository, prompt, or workflow.

No error message was displayed.

A task should not require its chat to be manually opened before a waiting tool can start or return its result.

If the app loses its connection to a scheduled task, it should reconnect automatically. If recovery is impossible, it should stop the task with a clear timeout or error instead of leaving it active indefinitely.
