BUG: GPT5-Codex undos staged changes #3746

Closed

Description

@guidedways

What version of Codex is running?

0.36.0

Which model were you using?

GPT5-Codex high

What platform is your computer?

macOS

What steps can reproduce the bug?

  • Codex makes changes
  • I then go around and stage some of them, making minor tweaks
  • I tell codex I've corrected some mistakes and ask it to perform another sub-task
  • Codex REMOVES the staged changes and undos all of my changes and replaces them with whatever it seems it remembers when it made changes earlier

What is the expected behavior?

It should leave git alone! Codex was never asked to manage git, commits, branches or anything to do with git in general. It should never touch staged changes.

What do you see instead?

Hours of work undone.

Thanks for the bug report. We've shared the feedback with the team members who are responsible for training our codex models. We're tracking this feedback and similar reports so we can make the model more robust in future iterations.

If you see other model behavior that you'd like to report, please use the recently-added /feedback command in the CLI. That will provide us with additional details including logs and conversation text.
