    @SunMaple11

    I have solved this problem.

    This is my error
    It's 2 reasons I've known to cause it:
    1 codex version too old.
    2 some wrong configurations. This is my problem. Open ~/.codex/config.toml and search any wrong configurations.
    Because the remote compaction always error in the past so I add this config in my config.toml
    [feature]
    remote_compaction_v2 = false
    local_thread_store_compression = true
    It's wrong config. So I delete this three lines and continue my error session. It is work.
    Hope to help you.

    @SteenPetersen

    EDIT: This did NOT fix the issue.

    I may have found another possible fix/workaround for this on Windows using Codex from Rider.

    Inspired by the last comment, I first checked:

    C:\Users<user>.codex\config.toml

    In my case, I did not have the settings mentioned above:

    [feature]
    remote_compaction_v2 = false
    local_thread_store_compression = true

    So there was nothing for me to remove/change there.

    What I did notice was that my globally installed Codex CLI was quite old:

    @openai/codex@0.125.0

    I updated the global installation, and I'm now on:

    codex-cli 0.149.1

    Since updating, I haven't hit the remote compact task: unexpected status 404 error again, and the session has already lasted considerably longer than it normally would before failing.

    I'm not 100% confident this is the fix yet, so I'll keep testing, but so far updating the Codex CLI looks promising.

    Might be worth checking codex --version if you're seeing the same issue, especially if you've had Codex installed for a while.

    EDIT: This did NOT fix the issue.

    @Hansimov

    Thanks @SunMaple11 ! Remove remote_compaction_v2 = false from config.toml really works for me.
