Windows: severe mouse cursor lag while Codex desktop app is running #38659
What version of the Codex App are you using (From “About Codex” dialog)?
The issue started after updating Codex to version 26.810.6296.0.
What subscription do you have?
ChatGPT Pro
What platform is your computer?
Windows 11 Pro, version 25H2 OS Build 26200 64-bit
What issue are you seeing?
Mouse cursor develops severe input lag while the Codex desktop app is running. Fully quitting/shutting down Codex, including the background/system-tray process, immediately restores normal mouse behavior without restarting Windows. The issue starts again after launching Codex and using it.
What steps can reproduce the bug?
Open Codex Desktop.
Start using Codex normally.
After a short period of use, the mouse cursor develops severe input lag/stuttering.
Fully quit/shut down Codex, including the background/system-tray process.
The mouse immediately returns to normal without restarting Windows.
Launch Codex again and use it; the mouse lag appears again.
Renderer, GPU, and codex.exe processes were near 0% CPU
The read loop persisted even while no agent turn was running (confirmed during a 15s blocking command with zero stream events)
Behavior:
Fully quitting Codex (including tray) immediately restores normal mouse movement.
Restarting gives a clean baseline; the problem returns after prolonged use.
The earlier remote-control retry loop ("waiting to resolve remote control preference...") is not present in this case.
Running the app elevated reportedly avoids the system-wide stutter, but I would rather not run the agent elevated as a permanent setup. Hope this helps narrow it down.

Same issue on Windows with Codex 26.810.6296.0 (Chromium 151.0.7922.137, app-server 0.148.0-alpha.9).
Measured while the stutter was active:
