Approval selector bug, jumps to other value #39503

Open

Description

@andresgit

What version of the Codex App are you using (From “About Codex” dialog)?

26.814.41957

What subscription do you have?

Pro

What platform is your computer?

Arch Linux Linux 7.1.8-arch1-3 x86_64

What issue are you seeing?

Using the new rules at https://learn.chatgpt.com/docs/permissions and a custom default_permissions permissions profile set up in ~/.codex/config.toml called "project-edit".

The Chatgpt app shows "project-edit" in the approval mode selector, but if I click "Approve for me", "Ask for approval" or "Full access", it immediately jumps back to the "project-edit" value.

So it seems that if there exists a custom permissions profile, the selector no longer works and doesn't allow you to choose "Approve for me" for example. Sometimes it briefly flickers to the new value and then goes back to "project-edit".

It should still allow you to pick "Approve for me" or "Ask for approval".

What steps can reproduce the bug?

Take from the website https://learn.chatgpt.com/docs/permissions the example configuration given and put it in ~/.codex/config.toml

default_permissions = "project-edit"

[features]
network_proxy = true

[permissions.project-edit]
description = "Project editing with OpenAI API access."
extends = ":workspace"

[permissions.project-edit.filesystem.":workspace_roots"]
"**/*.env" = "deny"

[permissions.project-edit.network]
enabled = true

[permissions.project-edit.network.domains]
"api.openai.com" = "allow"

Then start the ChatGPT app, open a thread in a Codex project and try to select "Approve for me". It immediately jumps back to "project-edit"
