Version 26.818.32112
What subscription do you have?
Plus
What platform is your computer?
Microsoft Windows NT 10.0.26200.0 x64
What issue are you seeing?
Hi, as of an update this week, I am no longer able to use the Codex application on Windows. If I attempt to create a new chat or open an existing one, it logs me out. I have attached a video to a google drive link. This happens even after uninstalling+ purging codex directories. It happens with a Native Windows or WSL2 backend.
Having same problem
I click on an old chat or a new chat and just goes in an endless loop, updated right after a chat finished and then it relaunched and have not been able to do anything in codex since this morning
same issue here, on windows chatgpt app, stuck in that endless logout loop when trying to view any chat, ive found a workaround for now, connecting my chatgpt app on my phone via remote connection lets me use the app and code, but its ridiculously inefficient and annoying
I am experiencing the same login/logout loop on Windows.
Environment:
Desktop app version: 26.818.61809
Windows version/build: Windows 11 , 25H2 (OS build 26200.9168)
Subscription: ChatGPT Plus
Advanced Account Security: OFF
Authentication method: email
ChatGPT web: works normally
Behavior:
The browser authentication completes successfully and the Codex desktop app briefly shows me as signed in. After approximately a few seconds or after selecting an existing chat ,it automatically returns to the sign-in page. Relaunching the app signs me in automatically, but it logs out again shortly afterward.
Troubleshooting already performed:
Completely closed all ChatGPT/Codex processes
Renamed %USERPROFILE%\.codex\auth.json and completed a fresh login
Reset the Windows application
Uninstalled and downloaded/reinstalled the application
Confirmed Advanced Account Security is disabled
None of these steps resolved the issue. This appears to be the same desktop authentication regression, but in my case it occurs with Advanced Account Security disabled.
I can confirm that this issue is still reproducible on Windows 11 with ChatGPT Plus in app version 26.820.71523.
I have experienced the same authentication loop across the following versions:
26.818.41509
26.818.41705
26.818.61809
26.820.60940
26.820.71523
The browser authentication flow succeeds and the desktop app initially displays my account, local projects, and conversations. However, opening any existing Codex conversation or attempting to create a new one immediately returns the app to the “Continue to sign in” screen.
Windows Repair, system restarts, and all available application updates have not resolved the issue. I have not reset the application or removed the .codex directory because preserving the local session history is critically important.
This has completely blocked access to my local Codex projects and conversation history for almost a week. The affected local conversations are not accessible from ChatGPT web.
Could the maintainers please confirm whether this authentication regression has been triaged and whether there is a target version for the fix? A safe workaround that preserves local sessions would also be greatly appreciated.
I can't believe in the era of the AI , a top AI company couldn't be able to fix this annoying and disrupting issue for almost a week! I lost my access to local Codex conversations due to this problem. please give a higher priority to find a solution.

Solved it temporarily by shifting to the beta build
