Pet can only be repositioned once after refreshing or reselecting it #41306
What version of the Codex App are you using (From “About Codex” dialog)?
[Paste the version shown in About Codex]
What subscription do you have?
[For example: Free / Plus / Pro / Team / Enterprise]
What platform is your computer?
Microsoft Windows NT 10.0.26200.0 x64
What issue are you seeing?
In Codex Desktop, the Pet can be repositioned only once after its state is refreshed or after reselecting it in Settings.
After the first reposition, further attempts to move the Pet do not work. Reselecting the Pet or refreshing its state temporarily restores the ability to move it once, but the issue repeats after that.
No error message is shown.
What steps can reproduce the bug?
Open Codex Desktop.
Open Settings.
Select a Pet again, or refresh the Pet state.
Move the Pet to a different position. This works once.
Try to move the Pet again. It no longer responds.
This is a UI interaction issue; no code snippet, session ID, token usage, or context-window information is applicable.
What is the expected behavior?
The Pet should remain repositionable after it has already been moved, without requiring a refresh or reselection in Settings. The Pet should be draggable whenever the user clicks and holds it, and it should be possible to place it at any desired position on the screen.
Additional information
The Pet renders normally and can be moved after a refresh/reselection, so this appears to be an interaction-state issue rather than a missing Pet asset or configuration file.
I can provide a short screen recording showing: refresh/reselect → first move works → second move fails.
I can reproduce a broader and inconsistent pet-overlay failure on Windows.
Environment:
Windows 11 Pro, version 25H2, build 26200.9168
ChatGPT Desktop from the Microsoft Store
Package version: 26.825.6671.0
Actual behavior:
The pet overlay is unstable and does not render its controls consistently.
Sometimes a status bubble and one or two white control buttons appear; sometimes only the pet or one icon appears.
When buttons do appear, their placement/visual state is inconsistent and they are never clickable.
The pet itself is never clickable or draggable.
Clicking or dragging anywhere on the visible pet/controls does nothing and passes through to the desktop or app underneath.
Pet animations also trigger unpredictably, mainly around selecting or refreshing a pet, rather than reliably following interaction or task state.
This affects both built-in pets and a local custom pet.
Reinstalling, resetting, hiding/waking the pet, and restarting the app did not fix it.
Expected behavior:
The pet overlay should render consistently, show its controls only in the intended state and position, and allow clicking the pet, dragging it, and using the visible voice/chevron controls.

I can reproduce the same issue on Windows 11 with ChatGPT/Codex version 26.825.32147.
Troubleshooting already attempted:
The issue still reproduces after all of the above.
