Codex "Recents" threads can not be deleted and Pet is broken #42839

Open

Description

@ravasssz1990

What version of the Codex App are you using (From “About Codex” dialog)?

ChatGPT Windows desktop app version 26.901.4073.0

What subscription do you have?

Plus

What platform is your computer?

Microsoft Windows NT 10.0.26200.0 x64

What issue are you seeing?

Deleted conversations remain visible under Recents as stale or ghost entries. The ChatGPT web interface correctly shows only “Musical Equipment Plans,” but the Windows desktop app continues to show numerous older conversations. Clicking one displays “Could not load this ChatGPT conversation.” Attempting to archive one displays “Failed to archive conversation.”

The desktop log confirms that the conversation shown in the sidebar has already been deleted server-side. The request to /conversation/{conversation_id} returns HTTP 404 with:

errorCode: conversation_deleted

message: Conversation has been deleted. Start a new chat.

can_retry: false

Therefore, the desktop app is retaining deleted conversation references and provides no working way to remove them from Recents.

The floating Pet overlay appears, but it cannot be clicked, selected, or moved. Its overlay window loads, but the desktop logs contain a failed filesystem read inside avatarOverlay, a “Conversation state not found” error, ResizeObserver errors, and an unhandled renderer rejection: TypeError: e.setState is not a function.

Troubleshooting already attempted:

Signed out and signed back in

Windows Repair

Windows Reset

Uninstalled and reinstalled from Microsoft Store

None changed the behavior.

Diagnostics show:

Installed app: OpenAI.Codex 26.901.4073.0

Bundled Codex version: 0.153.1

Only one installed app package

Authentication configured successfully

Network HTTP and WebSocket tests successful

App-server handshake successful

Installation consistency passed

Local database integrity checks passed

Please purge or repair the stale deleted-conversation references associated with this account and investigate the unresponsive Pet overlay/input handling in desktop version 26.901.4073.0. Please do not remove the valid conversation titled “Musical Equipment Plans.”

What steps can reproduce the bug?

Just opening the app already reproduces the problem. In fact the problem is there regardless of reinstalls and repairs and resets. The pet problem can be reproduced every time I press "Show Pet"

What is the expected behavior?
