Codex quota drains while idle and all purchased credits disappeared #43223
Description
What issue are you seeing?
My Codex usage is being consumed even when I am not actively using Codex or Work.
For several days, I have been seeing a consistent pattern where roughly 10% of my weekly usage disappears each day, usually sometime in the morning, despite me not intentionally running any Codex tasks.
The issue has now become significantly more serious because my purchased credits have also disappeared.
I previously had:
- 11% of my weekly usage remaining
- 654 purchased credits remaining
Without intentionally using Codex, my balance later showed:
- 0% weekly usage remaining
- 0 purchased credits remaining
The 654 credits were credits that I had actually paid for, so this is no longer only an issue with the included weekly quota. My purchased credit balance has also been depleted without any clear explanation of what consumed it.
This appears related to the quota/accounting issues being tracked here:
It may also be related to passive/background usage reports such as:
My issue is specifically that usage continues to disappear while I am not intentionally using Codex, and there is currently no detailed usage ledger that allows me to identify what consumed either my weekly quota or my purchased credits.
What steps can reproduce the bug?
- Check the remaining weekly Codex quota and purchased credit balance.
- Stop using Codex and Work.
- Do not submit any new prompts or start any intentional Codex tasks.
- Check the usage balance again later or the following morning.
- Observe that the weekly quota has decreased despite no intentional usage.
- Repeat this across multiple days.
I have repeatedly observed roughly 10% of my weekly quota disappear each day, usually sometime in the morning.
More recently, the issue also affected my purchased credits.
I had 654 purchased credits remaining, but the balance later dropped to 0 alongside my weekly quota reaching 0%.
I do not have any visible usage information that explains what activity consumed those credits.
What is the expected behavior?
My weekly Codex quota and purchased credits should not decrease when I am not intentionally using Codex or Work.
Purchased credits in particular should only be deducted when there is identifiable usage that exceeds the included plan allowance.
If background activity, delayed accounting, automated tasks, or another Codex service consumes quota or purchased credits, that usage should be clearly visible and attributable.
The usage page should show:
- what activity consumed the usage;
- when it occurred;
- which client or service initiated it;
- whether it was foreground or background activity;
- how much weekly quota was consumed;
- how many purchased credits were consumed.
In this case, I would also like the 654 purchased credits that disappeared to be investigated and restored if they were consumed incorrectly.
