ChatGPT project visible on web but missing from Windows desktop app Projects sidebar #45735

Open

Description

@nadaco11-prog

The ChatGPT project "כרם ארי ניהול" is visible in ChatGPT on the web, but the Windows desktop app displays "No projects" in its Projects sidebar. The app project listing returns the same project and assigns it to the Projects section, so the account data and sidebar display disagree.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Sign in to the same ChatGPT account in the browser and Windows desktop app.
  2. Open Projects in the browser; the project is listed.
  3. Open the desktop app sidebar; Projects displays "No projects".

Expected: The project appears in the desktop app Projects section.
Actual: The app shows "No projects" while the browser shows the project.

Observed on Windows on 2026-09-15. The exact app version and whether signing out and back in resolves the issue have not been confirmed.

    Just got this from OpenAI Support (case escalated, direct quote):

    "Shared Projects have not yet been added to the new ChatGPT desktop app. This is why they appear at chatgpt.com while the macOS app displays 'No projects.' Your projects have not been deleted, and this does not indicate a problem with your account access. We do not currently have a release date to share for Shared Projects support in the new desktop app, and an open GitHub report does not provide a confirmed delivery timeline."

    So this is now a confirmed, acknowledged gap with no ETA, not a caching bug, sync delay, or account issue. Worth flagging that support and eng appear to have no visibility into this thread, since it's sat open and uncommented since July with reports piling up.

    For some reason, shared projects seem to appear just fine in the Classic ChatGPT App. Maybe this is useful for someone waiting for this annoying problem to be fixed.

    @silc22

    I’m seeing the same Windows desktop sidebar issue, with a narrower pattern around projects shared by link.

    Environment

    • ChatGPT Windows desktop app: 26.1007.2314.0
    • Windows 11 Pro 26H2, build 26300.9457

    Observed behavior

    • The user owns and created the project Corina, then later shared each using “Anyone with the link.”
    • These projects still appear normally on the web.
    • Their chats can be found through Search in the Windows desktop app, and opening a chat shows the correct project association.
    • However, the names of these shared projects do not appear in the desktop app’s Projects sidebar.
    • Other projects that have not been shared are displayed in the sidebar as expected.

    Signing out and back in, restarting the app, and updating the app did not resolve the issue.
