Needs a sticky header describing what the agent is working on #4607

Closed

Description

@atmoio

What feature would you like to see?

I have up to 4 codex terminal tabs open at a time all working on something concurrently. And I lose track very quickly who is working on what. It's very often that I send the wrong followup message to the wrong agent.

There needs to be a sticky summary at the top that shows what this agent is working on. Even better if the Terminal tab title could also reflect this.

Are you interested in implementing this feature?

It would also help if the agent state is shown.

    For example:

    • ⏳ waiting — waiting for user input
    • 🧠 thinking — generating a plan or response
    • ⚙️ executing — running commands or tools
    • ✋ awaiting_approval — waiting for user confirmation
    • ✅ done — task completed
    • ❌ error — task failed

Using short labels with emojis could keep the header compact and easy to scan.

The header text could also be configurable.

    For example:

    • The user could change it after starting Codex CLI.
    • It could be set with a command-line argument when launching Codex.
    • Or Codex could generate it automatically based on the conversation and current task.

It might also be useful to include a few timestamps.

    For example:

    • when the Codex session started
    • when the user last sent a prompt
    • when the current task finished

I often forget when I asked something, so seeing these times could help.

We've since added the /title slash command for configuring the terminal title. If you have additional feature suggestions in this area, please open a new feature request.

Thank you for implementing this 😀
The ability to freely select multiple items is extremely convenient. It will match the needs of many different people. Great job! 👍
