ChatGPT desktop Browser Use cannot attach when admin policy verification becomes unavailable #46295

Open

Description

@BRANDPORTALBeePee

Summary

In the ChatGPT desktop app, the built-in browser can display an authenticated page and the browser inventory can see the open tab, but Computer Use cannot attach to that same tab.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Open an authenticated website in the built-in browser.
  2. Ask Codex to interact with the visible tab.
  3. Browser state successfully lists the tab, title, and URL.
  4. Attempting to attach to the tab fails before any page interaction.

Actual result

The attach operation repeatedly returns:

Browser Use could not complete this action because a browser security check was unavailable. Reason: The admin-enforced policy could not be verified, so access was not granted.

The failure occurred repeatedly after refreshing browser state. The page itself remained visible and usable by the user.

Expected result

Computer Use should attach to the already-open tab when browser use is enabled and the page is visible.

Workaround

The user reports that fully quitting and reopening the ChatGPT desktop app restores the connection. This suggests stale or temporarily unavailable managed-policy state rather than a denied origin.

Environment

    @farcire

    I’m seeing the same failure in the ChatGPT desktop app on macOS. The built-in browser displays a signed-in page and the user has checked browser permissions, but Browser Use cannot attach to the open tab. A direct attempt through the connected Chrome browser also fails before the page can be read. The error is: “Browser Use could not complete this action because a browser security check was unavailable. Reason: The admin-enforced policy could not be verified, so access was not granted.” Repeated attempts and checking browser settings have not changed the result. Please distinguish a temporarily unavailable policy check from an actual access denial and provide a recovery step. I’m omitting the destination site, session details, and logs for privacy.
