Windows 11: console windows flash during tool execution after updating to CLI 0.157.0 #48036

Closed as duplicate

Description

@maticsuc

Environment

  • Windows 11, native Windows CLI
  • Codex CLI 0.157.0 (verified with codex --version)
  • Installed via npm (@openai/codex)
  • PowerShell

Problem

After updating Codex CLI, command windows visibly flash and disappear during tool calls that run commands or write files. One additional window remains open. The user reports that none of this happened before updating and that the repeated flashing makes the CLI unusable.

Reproduction

  1. Run Codex CLI 0.157.0 on native Windows 11.
  2. Ask the agent to run shell commands or write files.
  3. Observe console windows briefly appearing and disappearing during execution.

Expected behavior

Tool execution should not repeatedly display console windows on the user's desktop.

Troubleshooting

  • Suggested testing a fresh session with codex --no-daemon; the user subsequently reports windows still appearing. Exact execution path has not been independently verified.
  • Trying to resume the existing session with --no-daemon resulted in a session lock according to the user; exact error text is unavailable.
  • Suggested windows.sandbox_private_desktop=true, but whether this was tested is unconfirmed.
  • Identity of the persistent window and the last working CLI version are not yet established.

Please investigate native Windows console visibility during tool/process startup. Automatic background-server startup was considered as a hypothesis, but no root cause has been confirmed.
