Windows: Edge extension installed, but browser connection times out or reports no browser available #48146

What issue are you seeing?

Microsoft Edge browser connection fails in the ChatGPT desktop app on Windows.

The Edge extension is installed and enabled. The desktop app confirms it is installed. Browsing, downloads, and uploads require approval. Full CDP access is off.

Troubleshooting completed:

• Restarted Edge.
• Closed the desktop app and checked Task Manager; ChatGPT was not listed.
• Reopened the desktop app.
• Removed and reinstalled the Edge extension.
• Confirmed installation and approval settings.
• Started fresh desktop chats and selected Edge from the @ menu.

Connection-only tests timed out. A later test returned:
“No browser is available”

With the Doba Retailer API page open in Edge, a one-page reading test failed with:
“js execution timed out; kernel reset, rerun your request”

The test stopped without retrying. No page content was read and no documentation file was created.

The Edge side panel also displayed:
“This is open in another app. Close it there to continue here.”
That message persisted after closing the desktop app and restarting Edge.

Please investigate why the installed Edge extension is not providing a working browser connection.
