Description

What version of the Codex App are you using (From “About Codex” dialog)?

Codex App: 26.1002.52244 (build 13536)

What subscription do you have?

Personal ChatGPT subscription; exact tier available privately if needed

What platform is your computer?

macOS: [26.7.1 (25G241]

What issue are you seeing?

Title: [macOS] Built-in browser is visible, but Browser Use tools are unavailable across chats

Codex App: 26.1002.52244 (build 13536)
macOS: [version from About This Mac]
Model: [model shown in this chat]
Feedback/session ID: 01a09b8d-f082-7ee0-b35c-a29b6da09706

The built-in browser opens pages and shows the current URL, but Codex no longer receives the tools needed to inspect or control it. This affects multiple chats that previously used browser control.

On https://learn.chatgpt.com/, the site-tools arrow is visible. When I ask Codex to list Available site tools, scroll the page, or click a visible button, it cannot perform the action and no site-access permission prompt appears. The same loss of browser control affects work in Meta Ads Manager.

Expected: Codex can access the open built-in browser tab, request permission when needed, and use browser controls.

Actual: The tab remains visible to me, but Codex cannot interact with it. macOS Accessibility permissions for ChatGPT and Codex Computer Use are enabled.

Steps:

  1. Open a page in the Codex built-in browser.
  2. Ask Codex to inspect the page or click a visible button.
  3. Observe that no browser action occurs and no permission prompt appears.

I already submitted in-app Feedback for the session ID above.

What steps can reproduce the bug?

  1. Open https://learn.chatgpt.com/ in the Codex built-in browser.
  2. Confirm that the page loads and the site-tools arrow is visible in the address bar.
  3. In the same chat, ask Codex to list the available site tools.
  4. Ask Codex to scroll the page or click the visible “Get started” button.
  5. Codex cannot perform these actions, and no site-access permission prompt appears.

I also see this problem in other chats, including one with Meta Ads Manager open in the built-in browser.

What is the expected behavior?
