As @davidism pointed out in #3123 (comment) :

Nowadays you can also use pytest directly for this, or use with tempfile.TemporaryDirectory(). I don't think we'd add isolated_filesystem today, I think it was added before Python 3 and pytest were in common use.

    I already made an attempt in my local code base a while back when we were discussing #3501 . I will try to propose a PR soon depending on the results of my experimentations.
