I have verified this feature I'm about to request hasn't been suggested before.
Describe the enhancement you want to request
Currently, there are only 2 options for plugins to send a system reminder to the agent:
Send a reminder as a user message
Silently rewrite the dialogue
Neither is ideal. 1 could be annoying by scrambling for control with the user, and pollutes the user messages' role as checkpoints. 2 is totally invisible to the user, which harms system transparency and adds difficulties in debugging.
The best solution to this is adding an independent system reminder channel. Ideally, it should act like a dialogue append, but have a reasonable UI presentation.
OpenCode already has the lower-level capabilities. Internal reminders use synthetic text parts; synthetic text is model-visible unless ignored, and plugins can already mutate model-visible context via experimental.chat.messages.transform or experimental.chat.system.transform. The only thing missing is a unified method to send attributed, user-visible, model-visible reminders. Currently, plugins have to split this into a silent model-context mutation plus a separate toast or ignored/no-reply chat message for the user as a workaround (e.g., opencode-dcp).
Claude Code has a comparable implementation via the hook additionalContext, which is injected as a system reminder at the hook event point, model-visible on the next request, but not rendered as a normal chat message.
Such a method would also provide a more graceful implementation for the MCP resource subscriptions1. As proposed in #29355, and requested in #20682 and #12092.
Not the same issue. Injecting an agent-visible message is already available via experimental.chat.messages.transform or experimental.chat.system.transform. I propose encapsulating those methods in a system reminder method that works similarly, but is consumed by a UI component.
