Hello and thanks for the effort
there are multiple thing great about old layout and why you should keep it.
easy access to almost everything from the main window while in the new version you should navigate through the app to find the options you want
Being able to use a work space so you can have an easy clone of the project and working with it without the fear of corrupting the main project while in the new design there is no option for making a new work space.
3.Having all your folders and projects and chats in the side bar so you can easily switch between them and work on them in parellel while in the new design its so hard to do that because you need to navigate through the app and its not like before.
So PLEASE dint remove the old layout if you really insist on using the old form. just let us use the old layout forever and dont remove it.
also I have a low end laptop and I dont have a mouse and settings menue needs a bar in the left or right so I can navigate through the settings.
No issue template was used. This project requires one of: Bug Report, Feature Request (title must start with [FEATURE]:), or Question
The title "Old Title Is the BEST" does not follow any template convention
If this is a feature request to restore or keep the old layout, please reopen using the Feature Request template with a title like [FEATURE]: Restore/keep legacy layout option and explain the problem/need clearly
Please edit this issue to address the above within 2 hours, or it will be automatically closed.
This issue might be a duplicate of existing issues. Please check:
新界面不支持工作区的创建、销毁和查看 #37001: Similar complaint about the new UI missing workspace creation/management features from the old layout
Thanks for updating your issue! The content is much clearer now and we can see the specific problems you're describing with the new layout.
However, there are still a couple of things that need to be fixed for this to meet our Feature Request template requirements:
Title format: The title must start with [FEATURE]: (all caps, with a colon). Please update it to something like [FEATURE]: Keep old layout as an option
Verification checkbox: The Feature Request template includes a required checkbox to confirm you've searched for existing issues. Please make sure that's checked.
Once those are updated, we'll be good to go. Thank you for taking the time to share this feedback!

Thanks for updating the issue title and providing a detailed explanation — the reasons you've shared are clear and genuine.
There is still one thing missing to meet the Feature Request template requirements:
Verification checkbox: The Feature Request template includes a required checkbox confirming you've searched for existing issues before submitting. Please edit the issue to add and check that box.
Once that's done, we'll be all set. Thank you for your patience!

Thanks for updating your issue! It now looks good and follows the feature request template. We appreciate you sharing the details about why the legacy layout matters to you.
New layout is hot garbage if you multitask, tabs are not a work around - especially when the project letter icon on the tabs is bloody wrong.
S, C, and D are not the same letter 🤡

also in older design you could set icons and rules for each workspace which was great for me because most of the default icons in the software were identical and this could help me organize my workspace better. overall they are evolving backwards. while everyone is bringing more multi tasking features, they remove them.
I fully support this! The new interface is extremely inconvenient
Please bring back the layout where projects and sessions are shown on the left side of the screen, as they were in the old UI. The current horizontal tabs at the top make it very hard to manage and switch between multiple sessions — titles get cramped and hard to read once you have more than a few open
A left-side sidebar (like in Claude Code desktop or Codex) would make it much easier to scan, switch between, and manage many sessions at once. It would be great to have this as an option, or even as the default layout again
I second this. the new layout completely broke my workflow, managing 10+ projects at once. I need to be able to quickly switch from one project to another without keeping dozens of tabs open at once. New workflow is terribly bad

Same here. I mostly want the file tree / project–session list back on the left, like Codex. After v1.18 the toggle for the old layout is gone, and in a fresh session the "Toggle File Tree" and "Toggle Sidebar" menu items stay greyed out (#47406), so there's no way to get the old left sidebar at all. Please keep the legacy layout as an option — or at least bring a left project/session tree back next to the tabs. +1

I am also having trouble using the new layout without access to workspaces / worktrees. Where is the toggle for the original layout?

+1 on keeping the legacy layout as a permanent, supported option (not just a transitional flag).

I don't want to use OpenCode anymore. They don't listen to suggestions at all. I'm planning to try yours.
