task(cluster): collect current BIOS/BMC versions and settings - core machines #1099
For every core machine: record BIOS version, BMC/IPMI ('ASM') firmware version, and a full settings capture via KVM. Known state: WRX80 Sage had an update applied; no firmware updates were found for the Dell machines; BIOS elsewhere got a best effort (Drew, 2026-10-20).
Acceptance: a version/settings matrix for the core fleet committed to hardware-doc; outliers highlighted.
No version/settings matrix exists yet: planning/roadmaps/basement-cluster.md lists "Firmware, BIOS and BMC audit" as planned under epic(cluster): firmware / BIOS / BMC audit & standardization #1081 ("Confirm firmware versions and every setting are identical across the core machines, verified by routine KVM screenshots"), and grep across doc/inventory/ + the 2026-10-27 cluster status doc finds no recorded BIOS/BMC versions for the core fleet.
The issue's own known state (WRX80 Sage updated; no firmware updates found for the Dells; best-effort elsewhere, Drew 2026-10-20) is prose, not a matrix — the acceptance ("version/settings matrix committed to hardware-doc, outliers highlighted") is unmet.
The collection method is KVM/BMC captures from the core machines. A queue worker has no verified BMC/KVM hostnames or access for them, and BIOS settings cannot be read from the repo.
Ask of Drew: either drop per-machine KVM screenshots / BMC version pages on this issue, or give the fleet the BMC hostnames + access path — with captures in hand, an agent can build and commit the matrix and highlight outliers in one scoped follow-up. Blocking queue task 2368 as escalated-to-user; issue labelled user/escalated.
Verdict: verified blocked on Drew's physical basement session — no agent-side work exists, and no further triage task is needed for this issue.
State verified fresh at origin/main (1e3763faf, 2026-11-03):
planning/roadmaps/basement-cluster.md line 14 still lists "Firmware, BIOS and BMC audit" as planned under epic(cluster): firmware / BIOS / BMC audit & standardization #1081 ("Confirm firmware versions and every setting are identical across the core machines, verified by routine KVM screenshots").
No version/settings matrix exists in doc/hardware/ (grep for BIOS/BMC/ASM version tables finds nothing for the core fleet); developing-today/hardware-doc holds device/component docs, not a cluster firmware matrix.
The acceptance ("version/settings matrix committed to hardware-doc, outliers highlighted") cannot be met from the repo: it needs per-machine KVM screenshots and BMC/IPMI version pages.
Ownership (unchanged from 2026-10-29): the on-site basement hardware session is Drew's task. The 2026-10-29 board-clearing comment removed user/escalated because no decision is outstanding for the fleet — it is waiting on physical access, not on a judgement call. Prior triage verdict (task 2368, 2026-10-29) reached the same conclusion and stands.
Label repair: this issue carried queue/queued + queue/blocked with no live queue task (the 2026-11-03 coverage-pass desync). Queue-state labels are now cleared; status/blocked remains, which is the accurate state while the physical session is outstanding.
For future coverage passes: do not enqueue another triage task for #1099 until the physical session lands; the blocker is known and recorded. When the session happens, the follow-up is a doc PR adding the matrix to doc/hardware/ (or hardware-doc) plus a line update in planning/roadmaps/basement-cluster.md.

Coverage pass 2026-11-03, loop-back review: this issue was re-reviewed (drift / overlap / already-handled / stale / blockers / ordering) so every open issue in the four repos is reviewed and in the system. Verdict: still live; in the system as task 8095 (triage, queued, priority 50) in repo-health-code-pilot. Labels audited and synced. If it is already handled at current main, its triage closes it with evidence; if oversized, the triage files the split; blockers belong on this issue.

Triage re-verified fresh this shift: issue #1099 is OPEN with status/blocked. The blocker is unchanged and already established on this issue: Drew confirmed 2026-10-29 that the on-site basement hardware session is HIS task (ownership claimed, no decision outstanding), and triage task 2370 (2026-11-03) verified no BIOS/BMC version/settings matrix exists yet for the core fleet and no agent-side work exists — the capture requires physical/KVM access to the core machines. Task 8095 is therefore blocked, not escalated: nothing is awaiting a Drew decision, only his physical session.
blocker: Drew's physical basement session — KVM capture of BIOS version, BMC/IPMI firmware version, and full settings for every core machine (acceptance: matrix committed to hardware-doc, outliers highlighted).
labels: queue/blocked + status/blocked synced this shift.
