id: Phase 13 F13.2 SSH as a transport for the frame protocol (id world join --via ssh) #784

Closed

Description

@dezren39

What and why

Run the ClientFrame/ServerFrame JSON protocol over an SSH exec channel so constrained networks and jump hosts can reach a world (id world join --via ssh). Today SSH is only a presentation adapter and exec requests are refused (pkgs/id/src/world_ssh.rs:252); the CLI's WorldClient speaks iroh only (pkgs/id/src/world_net.rs:157).

Source

Current status

Not started. grep -rn '\-\-via' pkgs/id/src/cli.rs finds no flag; exec_request is refused.

Acceptance criteria

  • id world join --via ssh replays the same session as the iroh path, byte-for-byte frames, over an exec channel
  • A test unwraps both envelopes (SSH channel and iroh QUIC stream) to identical frames
  • The frame transport does not touch the journal (frames are ephemeral; the journal is the durable record)

    Implemented in PR #842 (merged 2026-10-25, merge commit b975516). Closing manually — the PR only carried an auto-close keyword for #783.
