    I'm experiencing the exact same issue.

    Subscription: ChatGPT Plus
    Platform: Windows (ChatGPT desktop app)
    App version: 26.630.12135

    I had 3 resets available. I redeemed 1 reset on July 8, the reset
    counter dropped (3 -> 2), but my usage limit did not change/refresh
    at all after that.

    Current state in the app:

    • 5 hour usage limit: 99% left, resets 8:39 AM
    • Weekly usage limit: 0% left, resets Jul 14

    So the weekly limit is completely exhausted (0%) even though I
    redeemed a reset specifically to restore it. The reset was consumed
    (counter went from 3 to 2) but had zero effect on the weekly limit.

    I tried logging out and back in / re-authenticating, and nothing
    changed.

    The remaining 2 resets are now unused because I don't want to lose
    them the same way. Can OpenAI restore the wasted reset, and confirm
    a fix timeline? This looks like the same duplicate-pattern bug as
    #31601, #31575, #31532, #31450.

    Same problem here. I went from 3 resets to 2 resets. Yet still at 0%.

    Same here. I had 4 resets total. Used 1 around a week ago, worked seamlessly. Used 1 today, didn't work and reset got used up as well (went from 3 to 2).

    Same issues, I hit 0 % 5-hour and weekly, so I used a reset.
    The reset was consumed and the counter went from 3 to 2, but it did not reset the limits and still shows I am out of Codex messages.

    Same here, on the Codex CLI. After resetting via the /usage command, nothing happened, and the limit is still shown.

    i had the same thing ~50 minutes ago.

    While working near the 5h window, I received a pop-up offering a usage reset. I clicked it, and the UI confirmed the reset was successful and showed zero resets remaining. However, my usage did not actually reset; instead, I was immediately blocked by the "out of messages" screen asking me to upgrade or add credits. The reset was consumed, but I remain blocked from using the app.

    If it happens again, try restarting Codex before applying a second reset.
    I used a reset today, it showed the animation, then went back down to 0 %, but after closing Codex completely and starting it again it correctly showed 100 %.

  17. phrenciuc commented on Jul 20, 2026

    @phrenciuc

    It happened again to me today. Reset, animation shown, but no actual reset. Tried to restart the app, logged out and in again, no change, still at 0%. This happened after my entire quota went from 100% to 0% in one day with light to moderate work, so I guess something is fishy with the usage counters also... Never had this kind of usage before, usually I ended up the week at 20% while doing really heavy work. Something changed.

    Edit: It eventually reset after 30 mins, so the issue is probably the resets are queued and the queue is sometimes long, sometimes short. I guess the real issue is a UX one, since the user doesn't know that and he might think reset failed. I am curious out of everyone here that had the issue, how many actually received the reset later. Usually people report an issue, but if the reset eventually happened they dont come back to report this too...

    @casungo

    happened to me just now, I guess I need to wait since there is some sort of queue, but this is a UI/UX issue

  20. csrutil commented on Jul 24, 2026

    @csrutil

    I am seeing the same issue.

    My account has a visible "Redeem usage limit reset" option, but clicking redeem fails.

    Request:

    POST /backend-api/wham/rate-limit-reset-credits/consume

    Response:

    {
      "detail": {
        "code": "rate_limit_reset_ineligible"
      }
    }

    Account:

    • ChatGPT Plus user

    Reset credit ID:

    RateLimitResetCredit_1e4f42d5462081918b1468becb271fd1

    I already tried logging out and logging back in, but the issue remains.

    The confusing part is that the UI shows the reset credit as available, while the backend rejects redemption as ineligible. This looks like an entitlement mismatch between the frontend and backend.

    Could someone check whether this reset credit is correctly assigned to my account or whether the eligibility state needs to be refreshed?

    I experienced a very similar issue on ChatGPT Pro account.

    • Subscription: ChatGPT Pro
    • Date and time: July 27, 2026, at approximately 20:30 UTC
    • Result: 100% after reset → one Codex response → 0%
    • The consumed reset was not restored
  22. JshGrn commented on Jul 27, 2026

    @JshGrn

    Ive lost 2 resets since this now, and not sure any of the Codex team are aware/investigating

  23. ss-1996-source commented on Jul 31, 2026

    @ss-1996-source

    Happened to me again, but this time, after maybe 30 minutes, the reset was fully applied. The first time the reset was wasted.

    Within these 30 minutes, it was swapping between 100% and 5%. I was checking all 3 sources (Codex app, Codex CLI, Codex web app). Each of them flipped back and forth. Neither of them permanently stayed at 100% within these 30 minutes.

    I had created a support ticket, and these are some of the responses I received from the AI Agent after describing the issue.

    Support: Thanks — this behavior is consistent with the reset applying to one eligible Codex rate-limit window, and then the UI refreshing and showing a different active limit window (Codex can have multiple “buckets”/windows).

    I asked:

    Does this mean that this is just a cache issue? As in, eventually it would reconcile? Or is there a chance that the reset ACTUALLY gets wasted?

    Response:

    It’s usually not “cache” so much as different rate-limit windows/buckets being shown at different times (there’s a single-bucket view and a multi-bucket view), so the UI can look like it “snaps back” when it refreshes to the active bucket. A reset credit only gets consumed when there’s an eligible window to reset; otherwise it won’t be spent (e.g., “nothingToReset”), and after consuming a reset the client should re-read limits rather than assuming.

    I asked:

    How do I prevent these issues from happening?

    Response:

    Best prevention: use one browser profile/session (avoid multiple Codex/ChatGPT tabs/windows when hitting “Use reset”), wait ~30–60 seconds after using a reset then hard refresh once, and avoid VPN/proxy/traffic-rewriting tools that can cause inconsistent session state. Also, since you still have 2 reset credits right now, your reset was not wasted.

    Same bug here on an individual /month ChatGPT Pro account (username: shamurai).

    I had 2 banked Full resets. On Sep 9, 2026 I applied one in the ChatGPT/Codex Desktop app on Windows 11.

    What happened:
    • Before reset: weekly limit exhausted, 2 Full resets available.
    • Applied 1 banked Full reset.
    • Weekly usage briefly showed about 99% remaining.
    • About 2 minutes later it dropped back to 0%.
    • Full reset count decreased from 2 to 1.
    • Next scheduled weekly reset still shows Sep 15, 2026, 4:25 AM.
    • The web Usage page also shows Weekly remaining: 0%.
    • Codex is completely blocked.
    • The reset count therefore decreased from 2 to 1, but the reset did not provide usable access.

    I have already contacted Support through the Help Center. The conversation was escalated to a support specialist, but I have not received a ticket ID or email confirmation.

    Please restore the consumed Full reset and the usable Codex allowance it should have provided so I can resume working immediately. Please also ensure that my remaining banked Full reset will not be consumed by the same issue.

    I am not asking for additional free usage. I am asking for the reset already granted to my paid Pro account to work as intended.

    Technical details:
    • ChatGPT/Codex Desktop package: 26.901.6511.0
    • Product/executable version: 152.0.7977.83
    • Windows 11 Pro, build 26200

    Nobody got these refunded or responded to, and I just had the same issue just now as I came into 0% usage remaining, had to pay to upgrade.
