Deleted ChatGPT chats remain in desktop sidebar; delete and archive return conversation_deleted #43665
What version of the Codex App are you using (From “About Codex” dialog)?
Not captured. Feedback ID below is provided for diagnosis.
What subscription do you have?
Not captured.
What platform is your computer?
macOS:
Darwin 27.0.0 arm64 arm
What issue are you seeing?
Chats deleted on chatgpt.com still appear in the desktop app. Attempts to delete or archive the remaining entries fail. Signing out and signing back in did not fix the issue.
The desktop app logs confirm that the server considers the affected conversations deleted. GET, DELETE and PATCH requests return HTTP 404 with errorCode=conversation_deleted and can_retry=false.
Sanitized response:
{
"detail": {
"message": "Conversation has been deleted. Start a new chat.",
"code": "conversation_deleted",
"can_retry": false
}
}
What steps can reproduce the bug?
Delete ChatGPT chats on chatgpt.com.
Open the desktop app and observe that the deleted chats remain visible.
Try deleting or archiving those entries; the operations fail.
Sign out of the desktop app and sign back in.
Observe that the issue remains.

What is the expected behavior?
Chats deleted on chatgpt.com should disappear from the desktop sidebar. If an operation receives the terminal conversation_deleted response, the stale sidebar entry should be reconciled and removed.
