Live: self-host the fonts (no visitor data to Google) #12

Closed

Description

@realRaghavGupta

Goal. Stop sending every visitor's IP address to Google. Self-host the three font families (Barlow Condensed, Barlow, IBM Plex Mono) from public/fonts/, with font-display: swap and only the weights in use. Their licences (SIL OFL) are fine to redistribute; include the licence files.

Work. Remove the Google Fonts links and preconnects. Tighten public/_headers CSP: font-src 'self' and style-src 'self'.

Done when npm run validate passes, and the page makes no request to any Google host (show that in the PR).

Decision: setkernel/hq#113 (Raghav's answers in its comments). Tracking: setkernel/hq#105.

    Picked up. Working on branch agent/12-live-self-host-the-fonts-no-visitor-data. Automated: @rigel-setkernel's agent on rigel-dev.

    This looks stale, per the font audit (setkernel/hq#182, docs/research/font-audit.md, "Already filed"). main already self-hosts Manrope and IBM Plex Mono with their OFL files, sends font-src 'self' (public/_headers:2), and test/page.test.mjs:40-43 asserts no Google host. The Barlow and Google Fonts setup this issue describes is on the hq wall, filed as setkernel/hq#188. What remains for this repo is #50. Suggest closing this once its open PR is checked against that.
