task(cluster): design the hardware inventory record (schema + template) #1094
Design one inventory record per machine: CPU, motherboard, RAM (slots/size/ECC), every NVMe and HDD (model, serial, capacity, SMART summary, firmware), NICs (model, speed, ports), GPU, BMC/KVM address, BIOS/BMC versions (feeds epic 2). Template committed to developing-today/hardware-doc (the home of the VERIFICATION records) with one filled example.
Acceptance: template + example committed; a collector (script or checklist) exists that fills a record for one machine end-to-end.
developing-today/hardware-doc exists and is active (pushed 2026-10-28), with VERIFICATION-*.md device records and components/devices trees — but a recursive tree listing shows no machine/cluster inventory record or template (path grep for inventory/machine/cluster/template finds only unrelated device artifacts).
developing-today/code at HEAD: no "inventory record" schema in planning/ or doc/; the basement-cluster roadmap names the program but defines no record shape.
Route: follow-up small_fix enqueued as queue task 3002: template + machine-readable schema + collector (script or checklist) committed to hardware-doc, with one filled example from a machine the worker actually reads (no invented serials; unreadable fields marked unknown). Issue stays open pending that PR.
Task: Implementing this issue in developing-today/hardware-doc: inventory record template + JSON Schema, a stdlib-only collector script, and one filled example record read live from the laptop amd (Framework Laptop 13) — real values only, unreadable fields marked unknown with reasons. Worktree on the laptop: ~/git/fleet/3002-1094-inventory-record, branch queue/3002-1094-inventory-record.
Expectation: m — done = PR open in hardware-doc referencing this issue, example validates against the schema, task completed.
Task: Delivered in developing-today/hardware-doc PR Bump checkmarx/ast-github-action from 2.0.11 to 2.0.18 #2 (merged, commit 79917dfe): new machines/ tree with the inventory record JSON Schema (all fields this issue names), the markdown template, a stdlib-only collector (collect-inventory.py), and the first filled record — the laptop amd (Framework Laptop 13, Ryzen 7 7840U, Samsung SSD 990 PRO 4TB), produced by running the collector on the machine. Values are real reads only; six fields/groups the unprivileged run could not read (DMI serial, memory slot/ECC detail, drive firmware/SMART, Wi-Fi speed, BMC) are null with reasons in the record's unknowns array.

Closing this issue; basement core-machine records stay with task(cluster): gather stats - remaining machines + boxed HDD baseline #1096/task(cluster): collect current BIOS/BMC versions and settings - core machines #1099 as scoped.
