mcpx docs: 13 pages missing from compendium.manifest.json — TestEveryDocumentHasAChapter red on main #2552

Problem

go test ./internal/settings/ -run TestEveryDocumentHasAChapter is red on main, independently of the link failure tracked in #2545.

Verified on a pristine origin/main worktree at 38917318 (2026-10-30), and again on 02c774a2 after merging main into a queue branch:

--- FAIL: TestEveryDocumentHasAChapter (0.00s)
compendium_test.go:160: 13 markdown file(s) are not in the compendium manifest, so the book does not know about them:
          docs/binary.md
          docs/cli.md
          docs/compare/chapter.md
          docs/compare/history.md
          docs/examples.md
          docs/faq.md
          docs/http-api.md
          docs/interfaces.md
          docs/level-2-page-map.md
          docs/mcp.md
          docs/opencode-plugin-v2.md
          docs/plugins.md
          docs/scripts.md

pkgs/mcpx/docs/compendium.manifest.json does not know about 13 pages that exist in pkgs/mcpx/docs/. The level-1/level-2 docs work (#1878, #2109) added pages without giving each a chapter or an explicit role/reason, so the guard fails and every unrelated mcpx PR inherits a red mcpx / basic: test check.

This is a second, distinct failure from #2545: #2545 is about link targets that do not exist, this one is about the manifest missing real files.

Acceptance

Found by: OpenChamber scheduled lane, queue task 3144, while verifying PR #2535 against a pristine-main baseline.

Acceptance criteria

  • Every markdown file under pkgs/mcpx/docs/ has a chapter in pkgs/mcpx/docs/compendium.manifest.json, or a recorded role and reason for exclusion.
  • go test ./internal/settings/ -run TestEveryDocumentHasAChapter passes on main (via CI).
  • No docs page is deleted to make the guard pass.

    Intake review

Related: #2545 (distinct docs-guard failure, link targets), #1878 and #2109 (level-1/level-2 docs work that added the unmanifested pages), #2534 (main-broken filing for the mcpx workflow — this failure is one candidate cause).

Notes: Verified still live this run — the failure was reproduced on pristine origin/main by the filer, and no open or merged PR in this run's snapshot adds the missing manifest chapters. The 13 named pages are real files; the fix is manifest chapters (or explicit role/reason records), not page deletion.

Risks: Low — manifest/docs only. Chapter placement affects the compendium's reading order, so group the new pages with their level-1/level-2 neighbours rather than appending them in one block.

Suggested approach: Add manifest entries for the 13 pages in reading order; for any page that is intentionally not a chapter, record its role/reason in the form the test accepts; let CI run the settings tests.

    — Fleet monitor intake, 2026-10-30T04:30:00Z. Still-live check: open/merged PRs, recent commits, and open/closed issues searched in this run's snapshot; no merged PR explicitly resolves this issue.

Deploy-chain impact (2026-10-29 ~23:08–23:31 CDT): this test now blocks the ordered deploy chain for #2220 + #2250 + #2512. Two independent nixos-rebuild switch --flake ~/code#amd attempts from the laptop primary at origin/main 02c774a2 failed on the same derivation /nix/store/rya10059imf40z8a33skip1j20vx6l28-mcpx-0.1.0.drv: FAIL github.com/dezren39/mcpx/internal/settings — TestEveryDocumentHasAChapter ("Give each one a chapter in ../../docs/compendium.manifest.json, or a role and a reason for not having one"). Logs: laptop ~/switch-20261029-230757.log and ~/switch-20261029-231557.log (both SWITCH_EXIT=1 pattern; system stayed on generation 514, no activation, no rollback needed). Fixing this issue (register the 13 pages in compendium.manifest.json or give them roles) unblocks the switch; the chain watcher state is parked at phase blocked-mcpx-build-2552 and will resume with re-pull + switch once a fix merges.

One more page for this list, found 2026-10-30 on main e616aef: pkgs/mcpx/docs/testing/feature-inventory.md (landed in PR #2667 for #1978) is not in the compendium manifest — TestEveryDocumentHasAChapter names it. Mentioned in #2697 and scoped to here.

Coverage pass 2026-11-03, loop-back review: this issue was re-reviewed (drift / overlap / already-handled / stale / blockers / ordering) so every open issue in the four repos is reviewed and in the system. Verdict: still live; in the system as task 7337 (triage, queued, priority 50) in repo-health-code-pilot. Labels audited and synced. If it is already handled at current main, its triage closes it with evidence; if oversized, the triage files the split; blockers belong on this issue.

Task 9336 is parked for 20 minutes because this session cannot reach the required laptop worktree. The expected ~/tools/laptop-ssh.sh is absent; the alternate /home/user/hatch/tools/laptop-ssh.sh cannot authenticate without HTTPS_PROXY and ~/.ssh/known_hosts_laptop. No repository edits or tests were run. Resume when an authorized laptop shell with configured proxy and pinned host key is available. Issue #2552 remains OPEN; the four-file manifest scope is unchanged.
    labels: queue/parked + status/parked; work/assigned retained; no docs deleted.

Lane M claimed task 9336 for #2552; execution-lane assignment returned opencode, so this task is handed off to the laptop claimant (opencode-claimant), which launches the bound session. Attempts 10/16.
