Description

Install and verify the dedicated 20a circuits

Parent epic: #1083 (basement cluster program). Project home: planning/roadmaps/basement-cluster.md.

The install itself (electrician, Drew on site): dedicated runs per spec, breakers labeled, outlets tested under load with the first machines. No agent does electrical work - this issue tracks the visit and its verification.

Acceptance: circuits live and labeled; load test results and photos attached; panel schedule updated.

Physical work notes

  • Location: basement / server room, Osseo WI.
  • Tools/parts: as listed in the task; note anything missing on this issue before starting.
  • Safety: machines unplugged before drive or cable work; circuits are electrician-only work (epic 3).
  • Verification: attach a photo of the finished state (and SMART/KVM output where relevant) to this issue before closing.

    Scope update — Drew, 2026-11-04 ~23:33 CST

This ticket remains the execution ticket for the electrician goal (goal_55d3136785c6, basement electrician: dedicated 20A circuits for server room) under epic #1083. Tonight Drew refined the scope; the install/verify core below stands, with these additions:

    Checklist

    • Select + engage an electrician (quote step first). No candidate is recorded in the goal workspace yet — first quote request goes out from the existing spec: the electrician brief written 2026-10-29 (fleet task 2998, PR docs(cluster): electrician brief — circuit spec for the basement cluster (#1103) #2367) specifies 4 dedicated 20A circuits, a 600W/machine planning assumption, 1920W derated per circuit, and site-visit open items. Update that brief with this scope before sending.
    • Review of the current home breaker panel: capacity, free breaker spaces, and a load calculation for the lab at full build-out — ~12 cluster machines + 2–3 mini PCs + the Dell switches (at the brief's 600W/machine planning assumption, machines alone are ~7–9 kW).
    • Check the existing wiring on the lab circuits: condition and gauge adequacy for 20A runs (the ceiling run past ~3 unfinished walls from the GOAL spec; existing cable paths may be reusable).
    • Install between 4 and 16 dedicated breakers/circuits routed into the home lab, preferably 20A each. The count is a range on purpose: the panel review + load calculation above decide where in 4–16 we land (the prior brief said 4; full build-out may justify more). Record the decided count + reasoning on this ticket.
    • Label every new breaker and lab outlet run (matches the build-out set's physical labeling pass).
    • Verification: each circuit tested under load; the circuit → what-it-feeds list recorded on this ticket; panel schedule updated (already in acceptance below).

    Dependency (both ways)

Power is the gate for the home lab build-out set — epic #6066 (racking #6070, Dell switches #6073/#6074/#6075, cluster interconnect, TALM/Talos bring-up). Heavy racking sequences after or alongside this electrical work, not before the circuits it plugs into exist. Conversely, the final circuit count depends on the build-out's full machine list, which #6066 tracks.

Location: home lab, 13113 7th St, Osseo WI. Electrician-only work; Drew on site.
